A path of discovery

Walk through conservation parks to see stunning homes, waterfalls and beautiful blue gum trees that complement the region’s vineyards.

Several major walking and multi-use trails link Clare Valley towns. The Heysen Trail and Mawson Trail pass through the Clare Valley. Other trails branch out from them and take you to the heart of the region - the wineries.

The Riesling Trail, part of the 800 kilometre Mawson Trail, follows a section of old railway line that until the 1950s ran through Riverton, Clare and Spalding.

At a leisurely pace

The easy gradient and smooth surfaces take you past vineyards and lakeside picnic spots. It’s also suitable for pushers and wheelchairs.

Three looped trails run off the Riesling Trail. All pass cellar doors and lots of great places to eat. Because they’re away from the main trail, they’re a little steeper and on main roads.

The Rattler Trail splits from the Mawson Trail at Auburn and threads a 19 kilometre path to Riverton. This trail isn’t as flat but the scenery is just as compelling.

Passport Trail

Burra’s Heritage Passport Trail is the only way to see what was once Australia’s biggest copper mine.

Whatever time of year, the Clare Valley wears a pretty face. There are the falling red leaves in autumn, bright blooms of spring, lush green and mistiness of winter, cool summer shade.

The Clare Valley, happy trails to you.
