What’s in a name?
Limestone Coast residents call it as they see it. Where else would you find a 17 kilometre (10.5 mile) stretch of coastline, simply called Long Beach? It's just outside of Robe, one of the state's most popular seaside destinations.
A surfer’s dream
The Limestone Coast is a surfer’s dream, with great breaks right down to the Victorian border. Beginners, head for Robe, Beachport or Posties, just east of the original Port MacDonnell Lighthouse. If you want some big waves, don’t look any further than Cape Northumberland, Stoney's Rise or Browns beach.
Open ocean
Pounding all the way from Antarctica, the Southern Ocean shows little mercy to the ships that sail the Limestone Coast. More than one hundred have sunk in this region in the past century. Pick up a booklet and follow the Southern Ocean Shipwreck Trail from the Murray Mouth near Goolwa to the Victorian border.
Secluded bays
The Limestone Coast isn’t all rugged and wild. Long Beach, Cape Jaffa, Kingston South East and Rivoli Bay all have sheltered, picturesque bays where you can swim safely. Be mindful that there are strong currents and rips that exist right along the coast.
Great fishing
What do you want to eat?
We have jetties just perfect for catching a salmon or charters that chase blue fin tuna.
Coorong mullet and Glenelg River mulloway are delicious.
October to May is rock lobster season on the Limestone Coast. There’s a big lobster industry here. Bring your snorkel and flippers and have a go at catching one yourself.
