Yorke Peninsula Driving Trips
(此页面即将被翻译成中文,对于由此带来的不便我们深表歉意)An easy drive
Enjoy the journey at your own pace, in your own car. A short drive will take you from one town to the next, bringing with it all new experiences.
Most roads are straight and in good condition, with a few unsealed roads towards the bottom of the “foot”. Fuel is readily available in most towns and there are convenient rest stops along most major roads. Keep in mind that petrol stations close early, usually around 5pm or 6pm.
Dip your toes in the water with an easy drive from Adelaide. Head up the west coast of Gulf St Vincent as you travel through Two Wells. Pass the Mallala Motor Sport Park and Balaklava Courthouse Gallery, before grabbing lunch at Port Wakefield.
Under the shade of pine trees
From there, stroll across the top of the Yorke Peninsula and take a break in scenic Bute, as you continue to Port Broughton. Wander along the esplanade, under the shade of the Norfolk Island pine trees.
Seafood lovers, start your journey at Stansbury, originally named Oyster Bay. A leisurely drive south along the Yorke Peninsula coastline will take you through the hamlet of Wool Bay and the grain hub of Port Giles.
Experience the relaxed atmosphere of Coobowie, where you can pick up some fresh shellfish, harvested just offshore. Choose to drive along to Edithburgh or go a few kilometres south. Take a look at the Wattle Point Wind Farm, one of South Australia's largest.
Get back to nature
Explore the bottom of the Yorke Peninsula “foot”. Start out at Yorketown or Warooka and then head deep into Innes National Park. Make Marion Bay your home base and explore the coast up to Corny Point. Drive through the park and visit the many lookouts on the way. There are some great surfing spots. Cast a line. You'll find some popular fishing destinations nearby. Getting there is half the fun. As you drive through native bushland, keep an eye out for kangaroos, wallabies and emus.
For a more inland adventure, try heading through the heart of barley country, from Maitland to Port Victoria and onward to Minlaton.
Head off-road
If you'd like to try a bit of four wheel driving (4WD) around Yorke Peninsula, there are a few spots to check out, like Parson's Beach, near Minlaton. Remember, if you're going to be driving on sand, it's useful to lower your tyres (always re-inflate them when you get back to the road). It’s a good idea to carry a long-handled shovel. Never travel alone. Some parts of the Yorke Peninsula are quite isolated and don't have much traffic. A UHF radio and a GPS beacon are also recommended. Ask the Visitor Information Centre for more details.
Travel in a group, preferably with someone experienced and who knows the area. If you’re unsure about four wheel driving (4WD), there are great tour options available so you don’t miss out.
